The Tudor Pelagos FXD is a purpose-built military dive watch developed in collaboration with the Marine Nationale — the French Navy. "FXD" refers to fixed strap bars, a design requirement from the Marine Nationale that ensures the strap can never accidentally detach during underwater operations. The fixed bars are integrated into the case construction, eliminating the spring bar failure point that is the most common cause of watch loss during diving. The 42mm titanium case is notably thinner than the standard Pelagos at 12.75mm, achieved in part by the fixed bezel design — the 60-minute countdown scale is engraved directly into the ceramic bezel surface rather than using a rotating mechanism. This was a deliberate military specification, as rotating bezels can be accidentally displaced during combat diving operations. The navy blue dial and matching fabric strap recall the blue worn by French Navy divers, and the overall aesthetic has a distinctly military austerity that sets it apart from the more consumer-oriented Black Bay line. The MT5602 caliber provides the same proven reliability as other Tudor manufacture movements, with COSC certification and 70-hour power reserve. At just 90 grams on the fabric strap, the Pelagos FXD is extraordinarily light and comfortable for extended wear. This is a watch designed for a genuine military purpose that happens to also be available to civilians — a rare breed in an era where most "military" watches are marketing exercises rather than actual tools.
