The Chopard L.U.C Full Strike is one of the most technically innovative minute repeaters ever created, featuring sapphire crystal gongs — a world first that won the Aiguille d'Or at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève in 2017. Traditional minute repeaters use metal gongs attached to the movement, but Chopard's revolutionary approach bonds the gongs directly to the sapphire crystals (both front and back), transforming the entire crystal into a soundboard. The result is dramatically improved sound projection: the chiming sound travels outward through the crystal rather than being absorbed by the case material. The caliber L.U.C 08.01-L also incorporates a striking safety mechanism that prevents the minute repeater from being activated while the mainspring lacks sufficient energy, and a "strike-only" function that allows the repeater to operate independently.
