The Breitling Chronomat B01 42 revives the iconic 1984 design that established the Chronomat as one of the defining luxury sports chronographs of the 1980s and 1990s. The signature rider tabs on the bezel — four raised, bullet-shaped markers at the cardinal points — allow the unidirectional rotating bezel to be operated even with gloves, a feature originally designed for the Italian Air Force aerobatic team, the Frecce Tricolori. The 2020 redesign modernizes the Chronomat with a more refined case shape, the Rouleaux-style bracelet with alternating polished and brushed links, and the manufacture B01 chronograph movement. With 200 meters of water resistance, the Chronomat is significantly more versatile than the dress-oriented Navitimer, equally at home in the ocean as at the office. The B01 caliber delivers the trademark 70-hour power reserve and column-wheel chronograph precision. At 42mm, this is the sweet spot in the Chronomat range, providing substantial wrist presence without overwhelming.
